German Organization for Mosaic Art (DOMO)

The German Organization for Mosaic Art and the Aldersbach Art Association organized a mosaic exhibition with international participation in the grounds of the Aldersbach monastery. my 3 bird mosaics were neighbors with works by Giovanni Alvich, in the chapel of the cloister. I was at the opening on May 20, 2023 and met some of the artists there. At the general meeting held on the same day, I was elected to the DOMO board. Since then, I have learned a lot about mosaic art in Germany and Europe and can contribute my international experience at the board meetings. https://www.domo-ev.de/

Möckernkiez Community Mosaic

The video of the community mosaic “Möckernkiez” is here! A document of the creative work of a house community. ” I would not have thought that my neighbors could produce such beautiful designs. Would we manage to grout and clean the mosaic before the inauguration which was scheduled for 3pm? We started to mix the grout. And lo …

I had the chance to visit the archeological museum of the ancient city Pergamon in Turkey this summer again. 7 years ago during my mosaic conservation studies at the University Ankara I spent one day with the conservation team of Bergama Archeological Project. During that day I was given permission to photograph the mosaics from the masque mosaic floor which originates from 2.c AD. The mosaic is beautifully preserved and presented in the building Z on the Acropolis hill of the Archeological Museum Bergama . It was a joy coming back after all this time. The gallery below is a mix from my recent photos and the photos of 2007. Enjoy!   On our stroll through the ruins one small detail took my attention. I saw a braided pattern in a stone carving on one of the unearthed pieces exhibited which reminded me of a similar pattern in ancient mosaics. Funnily I could find this detail in one of the …
